We leave with a snapshot of a celebration: flags perching on lofty buildings housing memories of Independence framed in postcards for eager strangers back home.
We join this ritual of parading transients going nowhere, but here, where Merdeka means freedom from boundaries and borders we immure ourselves in.
We revel at this constant desire to imagine a patchwork community, for we are, after all, also perpetually searching for our own communities.
This leave-taking begins with a question, a jigsaw puzzle we call Malaysia, which we piece together forming a snapshot of a place, we, for a fleeting moment, called home.
